Quirpon Island and Lighthouse
A short jaunt from L'Anse aux Meadows is a village called Quirpon (pronounced Karpoon). From Quirpon you can see Quirpon Island were we booked a night at the lighthouse residence. We boarded a boat to the south edge of the island and hiked along the interior and along the coast to the north tip of the island where the lighthouse was. They said that the island was 7 km long, but the hike seemed longer, especially near the end.
Nina was hiking up ahead of us and at the last fork in the path she decided to take a different route than us. I will let Silvina recite her state of mind about that if you ask her.
As you can see, the island was beautiful and only open to the guests of the lighthouse. We were hoping to see some whales from the lighthouse but no such luck. Off in the far distance we did see some icebergs.
The next day they took us by zodiac back to the shore. That was Nina`s favorite part.
